Background:

The Unveiling Memories is a science fiction/dystopian novel by New York Times bestselling author John Colen, inspired by The Giver, and published by The Pelican Press. The story follows 17-year-old Jessica as she uncovers hidden control beneath her city’s seemingly perfect society.

Design Decisions:

The author and publisher needed a book jacket that communicated both the perfection of the society and the darker truths beneath it. I carefully selected typography to reflect the futuristic, sci-fi tone and used contrast, composition, and layered imagery to capture attention, convey intensity and urgency, and balance hope and danger, aligning the cover with the young adult dystopian sci-fi genre.

Outcome:

The final book jacket was print-ready, visually cohesive, and helped the book attract attention in the young adult book market.
